I’m not gonna lie but lately I’ve been wishing that I traveled more.  The only part of my travels that have been relatively exciting has been to the local bars throughout Rhode Island. What I’ve discovered at these bars is some great new beer that has been debuting courtesy of Fall.  I’m not just talking about Sam Adam’s Oktoberfest but I’ve sampled some pretty amazing beers.

So here’s how I see it: If you can’t actually leave the state or country you live in then why not take a little field trip to the bars in your hometown or state and get a little well-traveled in the art of BEER.

Beer is the one drink that I wish I was able to drink more of, mainly for weight reasons (vodka tonics are not always my first choice).  When it hits Fall around Rhode Island I can’t help but crave the usual standby’s Pumpkinhead and Cider (which I know isn’t beer).  On my travel’s lately I’ve discovered some really great Fall beers that most bars don’t typically carry. Hopefully many of you will be able to locate some of these and enjoy your time in or on the road.

1. Blue Moon Caramel Apple Spiced Ale

The name pretty much says it all. Quite possibly two of my favorite tastes and scents rolled into one pretty ale. How’s that for different?

We blend apple juice with cinnamon, nutmeg, and caramel malts for a warming spice taste to stir up the tastes of fall.

Available in 12-oz. bottles, Brewmaster’s Autumn Sampler Pack

2. Wells Banana Bread Beer

Genius!!!!! Is all I have to say about this! Your mouth is watering already, huh?

3. Apple Ale-New Glarus Brewing Company

very clear, light yellow, big head that stays for the whole session.
apple all over the place, some tartnessdelicate apple flavor, kind of tart, a bit of sweetness
not a lot of body, but it has good carbonation and it’s crisp.

4. Shipyard Pumpkinhead Ale

This list wouldn’t be complete without one of the best pumpkin beers.

Go. Taste. Now

5. Hex Ourtoberfest Magic Hat

Magic Hat took a couple German Oktoberfest-style beers and combined them into a beer they could call their own. Catch Hex on shelves through Oct. 15.

So is your mouth watering yet? Mine sure is but it would probably be wrong to run out to the liquor store at this hour for some beer. However, after writing this list of some great Fall beers, buying some of that Caramel Apple beer is on my to-do list tomorrow.

While I may not be traveling to a different state or country I am certainly getting my fill of some delicious new and old beers.  If you can’t travel the next best thing is drinking!

Cheers!
