Review: Davines Love Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner

Let me start by saying how much I love this line! After receiving both the shampoo and conditioner in my June Birchbox, I simply fell in love. Most samples don’t blow me away or give me much to try, this month it was different.

Right now I’m using both products on days my hair has been exposed to the salt water from the beach or the chlorine from a pool. It really does a great job of restoring my hair’s moisture and its gentle enough for my color-treated hair. It’s definitely one of those products that after the first time you use it, especially the conditioner, you want more, immediately!

Must have Summer reading list

Hi guys!! Sorry things have been cray around here lately but I PROMISE to stop forgetting you!!

So I started reading a new book and it dawned on me that I haven’t done a book list in a while. Over the past few months I’ve been reading a lot of really awesome book and I decided to share some of them with you. If you’re like me, then finding a good book can often be hard. I tend to read a lot of series but lately I have been reading one-off type books and that’s ok.

Ok so here we go:

1. The Rosie Project

I think I probably talked about this book on my personal Facebook page for a while, when I was reading it and then also when I was finished. It’s about a man who meets a girl who is trying to find her biological father. What makes this book great, is that, the man in the story has what I determined to be Autism. It is the pairing of this unlikely duo that really makes you root for both parties. I seriously couldn’t put this book down. If you’re a fan of The Big Bang Theory then you will love this.

2. Soy Sauce for Beginners

Another one-off type of novel but with a great story to tell. This book is about a woman, who travels back to her families soy sauce factory in hopes to eventually take over and run it. She leaves a life behind in San Fransisco and also a potential divorce. This story really makes you stop and think about which direction your life is headed in.

3. How to Eat a Cupcake

While this story makes you hungry it also makes you feel a connection to both parties involved. A story about two girls from two different worlds, who put their differences aside and open up a cupcakery. I can’t give too much away but there is some mouth-watering cupcakes described as well as some mouth-watering men described. It’s definitely a must for the beach.

4. The Selection

I will warn you that this book has not been finished yet BUT I feel so strongly that I’m adding it to the list. You will find this book in the Teen Fiction/Fantasy section (don’t judge me) and even though it was literally just purchased last night I’ve read so much and can’t wait to read the second book. This book is a combination of the television show The Bachelor and the movie The Hunger Games. I know it sounds like an odd combination but trust me when I tell you how remarkable story and the writing really are. Set in a different time and country this book really sucks you in from the first chapter.

I swear by all of these books and really think they are fantastic reads! If you’ve read something great lately please leave a comment below, we would love to hear about it!

Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica: Day’s 6-8

It’s official I finished my first full week of volunteering.  What a challenge! I honestly didn’t expect it to be this hard. I spent one week working with children aged 10-12, who barely spoke English and I barely speak Spanish-you can imagine the confusion.  Regardless, I’m loving it and I really wish I could give these kids another week of my time. That being said, after a long week, getting away is just what we needed.

Earlier in the week we decided to plan a trip to Manuel Antonio.  Manuel Antonio is a beach community that is a 3.5 hour bus ride away from San Pedro.  There you are able to enjoy the beautiful beaches, the national park, amazing food, and fun night life.

When arriving on Friday night and after checking into our hotel (hotel Manuel Antonio) we were on the search for food and of course drinks. What a difference getting away can do–we were a large group around 30 but we managed to created sub groups, mine consisting of 7.

A few differences between Manuel Antonio and San Pedro:

  • The weather! It has been around 70degrees in San Pedro with hardly any humidity-however in Manuel Antonio it was around 95 degrees with 100% humidity. It was down right unbearable at some points, at least for me anyways.
  • Causal–Manuel Antonio is a very casual beach town. People walk around in there bathing suits or anything that is casual and comfortable. San Pedro/San Jose is much more conservative.

On our first official day we decided to venture into the National Park for the beaches. However there is a huge public beach that was across the street from our hotel.  You have to pay $10 to enter the national park and it takes about 2hrs to complete the whole thing. We went just for the beaches and honestly I’m not sure what the difference between those and the public beach was.  If your looking to just beach it I would skip the park. Although if you have time and appropriate footwear then I recommend hiking the park. I had neither.

The night life in Manuel Antonio is awesome! So many people around just drinking, smoking, enjoying life.  One of the best things about Manuel Antonio is their drink policy; there isn’t one! You are able to buy pretty cheap drinks and just carry them around the city with you.  It makes for exploring and mingling much easier.  Also if you feel so inclined you can try making a bonfire on the public beach. Many people do so and its a great way to relax and unwind   with the people you came with-we had a great time!

On our last day we spent some time at the public beach.  The weather was a tad overcast but don’t let that fool you-sunblock! Yes I managed to gain color even  on a cloudy day. I’m turning a lovely shade of golden brown, its wonderful.

It was really nice to get away for the weekend. Seeing how two different sides of Costa Rican’s live was definitively an eye opener. Even though it was a mini-vacation I still haven’t forgotten the real reason why I am here.  I can’t believe I only have 4days left-It has gone by so fast. These next few days will be spent seizing the moment and enjoying life.

Summer 2012: Get Beach Ready Now

Who’s ready for the beach this year? I know I am! With this rather warm weather we are having on the East Coast, its only making us count down the days till Summer.

I don’t know about you but getting beach ready always seems to sneak up on me and before I know it all the good bathing suits are already picked over.

Now I’m not suggesting you buy in December cause lets face it no one wants to try on bathing suits in the dead of winter; but what you can do is start complying a list of must have items and slowing start picking them up. (It will be Summer before you know it).

We’ve got some great items on our list this year, see if you can pick up a few of them!
