Re-think New York Color

Re-think New York Color
Re-think New York Color

New York Color or better known as NYC at CVS or your local drugstore is often overlooked. You will find it on an end-cap in the makeup section but if you look closely you will find some great products. It’s known for being very inexpensive but that shouldn’t stop you from taking a look.

It’s no secret that I love brands such as Benefit and Anastasia but as of lately this girl is on a serious budget. The other day I was in my local CVS trying to find a cheapish nail polish. I of course went right over to OPI and Essie but I just couldn’t justify spending $8 on nail polish especially since it seems to chip 2 days later anyways. I stumbled upon a great shade from Maybelline and as I was making my way to the top-coats I saw NYC. Again, I could spend more money on a top-coat polish from Sally Hansen or I could spend .99 on one from NYC.

The choice was pretty easy. While I was picking up the top-coat polish I really started to give the rest of their products a closer look. I noticed that they had made a lip color that was identical to Clinque’s Chubby Stick and I believe a few other makeup brands sell a similar one. I had been interested in trying out a new shade, lately I’m obsessed with “nude” colors. I decided to try it. As some one that never lived without their Clinque Chubby Stick, I honestly couldn’t tell the difference.

I walked out of CVS with 3 items and spending $10. Two of which were from NYC. I’ve used both the top-coat polish that is RIDICULOUSLY shiny and the lip color and I’m really happy with both. I’m going back today to scope out a new foundation and eyebrow pencil. It’s really refreshing to find new brands to use that don’t cost a lot. If your on a budget like me I would really recommend NYC.  Tell us what bargain brands you use in the comments below!

Review: Anastasia Brow Wiz

Review: Anastasia Brow Wiz

Eyebrows, the topic of conversation one day at Sephora. Some of you might remember that I “over-plucked” my brows last year and if you were curious, yes they are STILL growing back in!

While I’ve been tending to my brows, I’ve noticed that they are rather bushy and dull looking. I’ve been trying to shape them but it seemed they needed more while the rest of them grew in. It’s kinda like when your going through puberty and parts of you are changing but the rest hasn’t caught up. That was the dilemma I was facing and decided to seek help.

So on that faithful day in Sephora I asked my friend who is quite the makeup-whore what on earth I should do for my brows. She suggested Anastasia (apparently all the blogs were loving this line).

Twist my arm a little bit and I walked out of Sephora with this brow wiz I knew nothing about. I did my research and figured out how I was supposed to make this work and gave it my best shot.

To say I loved the results would be an understatement. I physically can not leave the house without using this product. It’s no natural looking it’s not even funny but yet leaves my brows looking quite polished.

A $21 dollar purchase was quite worth it to be honest. I opted for the Ash Blonde pencil and I think it looks fantastic. I’m not sure when I became so obsessed with my eyebrows but like I always say, there are worse obsessions.

Take a look at my before and after photos:

Like I said, I love the results! Let us know what you think in the comments below!

Review: Juice Beauty

So as some of you know I have recently started subscribing to Birchbox. For those of you still confused check out my video here. Everyone else keep reading! One of the items in my Birchbox during the month of July was this product by Juice Beauty called Stem Cellular Repair CC cream. Until lately I had only dabbled in BB creams. After hearing nothing but awesome reviews on the CC cream I decided to give it a shot.

What is a CC cream you ask? A CC cream is a color corrector. So this is something that will help even out your skin tone. These creams will focus on wrinkles and skin firming. While I may be only in my 30′s, using a CC cream might seem like a bit much but one your late 20′s hit, using something around the eyes is never a bad idea.

So here’s the skinny:

  • Repairs damage
  • Evens skin tone & texture
  • Firms & improves elasticity
  • Reduces fine lines & wrinkles
  • Creates a radiant, glowing complexion
  • Balances skin tone
  • 100% reported improved hydration
  • 87.5% reported reduction in fine lines and wrinkles around eye area
  • 87.5% reported improved skin tone and luminosity
  • 75% reported improved elasticity of the skin

There you have the “clinical” information but what did I think of it?

Pros:

  • Smells great!
  • Light and did not leave my skin feeling heavy
  • Warm glow is the perfect color for a “light” skin tone year ’round
  • A little goes a long way

Cons:

  • It’s thick and goes on extremely thick
  • Not enough moisture for me, I still had to use a moisturizer first

Overall I really liked using this, I’m just sad to see my small sample diminish before my eyes. I definitely like it better than Gardiner’s BB cream I wrote about earlier in the year. Am I sold on just this brand? Probably not, I think its best to shop around, especially if you’re looking to save some money.  Let us know what other types of CC and BB creams you’ve tried!
